Identifying Ants in the Field and Why it Matters to Pest Management Professionals


Dr. Karen Vail is a Professor of Urban Entomology in the Department of Entomology at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN.

As the Extension urban entomologist she is responsible for providing leadership to pest management professionals, county agents, and the public as it pertains to urban integrated pest management programming. She trains and educates the pest control industry and has a research program on ants and other pests.

Karen received her Bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University, her Master’s from Virginia Tech, and her PhD from the University of Florida.
